As the first week of January draws to a close, the only information we have regarding transfers is a few rumors.

The rumor about Scott McKenna was just that—a rumor.

-ADVERTISEMENT- McKenna won’t be heading to Celtic, and there was nothing to it.

Since November, there has been a rumor circulating about something more.

In the aftermath of our Champions League loss to Lazio on November 29, I wrote a piece about Tiago Araújo.

In it, I said that pursuing Araújo at the age of 22 screamed project.

I still stand by my position on that.

Thus, Araújo appears to be the extent of our desire thus far in a transfer window where we should be pursuing “quality” players.

Even though this window is only going to last for three more weeks, the last thing we need is to be rushing to find projects and loans as it closes.

WE’VE SEEN THAT CAR CRASH MANY TIMES BEFORE AT CELTIC.

We truly need to start seeing some action if Mark Lawwell hopes to restore his standing as head of recruitment.

A little bit of ambition.

We’ve wasted nearly the entire week already.

Fabio Silva is already in the door for the Ibrox team.

He already made an appearance for them in their matchup with Kilmarnock.

They are reportedly considering Lawrence Shankland of Hearts and Josh Doig of Verona.

Furthermore, Scott McKenna is reportedly an Ibrox target even though he is not a Celtic want.

Tiago Araújo has been under our scrutiny since November.

It doesn’t exactly make you excited, does it, at the risk of saying it again?

WHAT EXACTLY IS MARK LAWWELL DOING AT CELTIC?

Is he having an extended Christmas holiday until Monday the 8th?

Or is he working away behind the scenes to bring in the quality Brendan Rodgers requires?

I guess there’s no way of knowing, is there?

Since nobody is reporting anything.

Not even the usual reliable source.

WE’VE HEARD NOTHING FROM STEPHEN MCGOWAN REGARDING TRANSFERS.

They are reportedly considering Lawrence Shankland of Hearts and Josh Doig of Verona.

Listening to the Celtic podcasts and reading articles in the blogosphere, everybody is of the same opinion.

Everybody says that the win against the Ibrox side should not be seen as a free pass for the Celtic board.

I’m beginning to get the feeling they’ve seen it as such.

Why else would there be no movement whatsoever at this point?

Not even a decent rumour to sink our teeth into?

DO YOU HAVE FAITH IN OUR BOARD THAT THEY MIGHT BE HARD AT WORK BEHIND THE SCENES ON MULTIPLE HIGH QUALITY TARGETS?

No, I didn’t think so.

Brendan Rodgers hasn’t exactly been waxing lyrical about “quality signings” either in his press conferences lately, has he?

So, I don’t know about you, but I’m getting that horrible deja-vu feeling I get every January transfer window.

In recent years, we’ve only seen one decent transfer window in January, and that was in 2022.

Before the window opened, we had Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate, and Yosuke Ideguchi in the door.

By the time it closed, we had Matt O’Reilly secured as well.

Looking at the impact those three players still have on our first team, that has to go down as one of the most successful January windows in recent times.

But as things go with Celtic, we can well and truly term that window as an anomaly.

Since then, it’s as you were.

One of two things is going to happen in this window.

WE’RE EITHER GOING TO BE BLOWN AWAY BY IT, OR COMPLETELY UNDERWHELMED.

My money is on the latter.

Why?

Because as long as the grey men are in charge of this club, nothing will change.

Call it deja-vu, call it Groundhog day, call it whatever you like, but it never changes.

Thus far, it looks like we’re in for more of the same this window.

Shock, horror.

Not.
