According to reports, Celtic are leading the race to recruit Nottingham Forest defender Scott McKenna this month.

After falling out of favor at the City Ground, the Scotland international is poised to quit the Premier League club in January. Forest are eager to offload the 27-year-old before losing him for nothing when his contract expires in the summer.

Brendan Rodgers was said to be interested in the former Aberdeen centre-back earlier this week.

According to the Nottingham Post, the Scottish champions appear to be in prime position to sign McKenna.

While Forest wishes to sell, the transaction is considered to be a loan transaction.

Rodgers is eager to enhance his defense during this window, given the continuing title battle with the Rangers.

Nat Phillips has returned to Liverpool after a brief stint in Glasgow, while Gustaf Lagerbielke’s future appears to be in doubt just six months after joining on a permanent basis.
The remaining first-choice centermen are Cameron Carter-Vickers, Liam Scales, Maik Nawrocki, and Stephen Welsh.

In turn, Yuki Kobayashi’s tenure at Celtic appears to be coming to an end after only a year. Ange Postecoglou brought him from Vissel Kobe a year ago.

Meanwhile, Brendan Rodgers has stated that he would prefer to complete his transfer business early this month, but he cited the example of Celtic’s failure to sign Declan Rice to demonstrate that supporters may need to be patient during the January window.

The Celtic manager has stated that the club were close to signing the now £100 million Arsenal and England midfielder during his first term in charge, only for injuries at West Ham to offer up an opening for him, which he took.
