According to The Athletic, the Portugal under-21 defender had misgivings at first. He was adamant about not rushing into a transfer to Forest, which is why the agreement took so long to complete in the summer.

 

It was 10am on transfer deadline day when Tavares was finally unveiled. The Reds have signed the Gunners performer on loan for the season but that deal could be made permanent should he impress.Forest loanee Tavares signed for Arsenal in 2021. Things haven’t really gone according to plan for the player at the Emirates Stadium, with the 23-year-old making just 28 appearances for the club.

Last season, he played on loan with Marseille, who finished third in Ligue 1. He scored six goals in 39 games as a left-sided wing-back in France.

 

Renan Lodi took Tavares’ spot in the Ligue 1 squad. The 25-year-old joined the club after spending the previous season on loan at the City Ground.

The defender, who is 23 years old, appears to be a talented player. He performed admirably for Portugal at the European Under-21 Championships in the summer.

He intends to play senior international football. First, Tavares must unseat Ola Aina and establish himself as a member of the Forest team during the international break.

 

Tavares did not do well in his only previous outing involving Forest. He came off the bench after 30 minutes when Forest defeated Arsenal in the FA Cup in 2022.

Nonetheless, he should not be assessed simply on that basis. He’s a promising young player, and Steve Cooper will no doubt welcome the opportunity to bring out the best in him.
