Stoke City has made a transfer announcement as new head coach Steven Schumacher prepares for the January transfer window.

Steven Schumacher is looking to bolster certain aspects of his Stoke City squad when the transfer window opens on Monday.

Schumacher has already seen the majority of his senior players in action after compressing three matches into a week and coming away with five points, topped off with a Friday night tie with 10-man Watford, which he was ultimately unhappy not to win. He can see areas that require improvement and has stated that Stoke must be fitter as well in order to play at the tempo he desires.

“Definitely, yeah,” he replied. “We have already identified some areas of focus and players we would like to bring in.” I also wanted to give everyone a chance to stake their claim. It is excellent that the majority of the players have now been on the field and we have seen some of them. We have not seen a lot of them in training since we have not done a lot and have not had time, but there are obviously areas we would seek to strengthen in January. We need to grow fitter and raise the tempo and intensity at which we can play because that is how I want our squad to play.”

At Vicarage Road, Schumacher used Jordan Thompson as an emergency left-back and has inherited a group in which Jack Bonham is the sole senior keeper.

Stoke have had few choices on the wing for a long time, and it remains to be seen whether Nathan Lowe or Emre Tezgel can break through and challenge Ryan Mmaee for the senior position.

Stoke City return to action at the bet365 Stadium on Monday against Ipswich Town.
