Eddie Howe has been instructed by former Newcastle United player Nobby Solano to sign a striker during the January transfer window.

Given Callum Wilson’s history of injuries, Solano thinks Newcastle ought to be aggressive during the transfer window in search of a striker.

Although Newcastle is expected to enter the transfer market the following month, it is yet unknown which positions they would look to bolster.

Eddie Howe and his side will probably need to sign replacements for both Sandro Tonali and Nick Pope next month due to their respective bans and injuries.

Speaking exclusively to Express Sport on behalf of TNT Sports and the Budweiser Brewing Group UK&I, Solano stated:

“Unfortunately, the team you see has a few injuries. Newcastle’s team might use a little bolstering, in my opinion, with more quality, more experienced players, and more bench space.

“Just as with Manchester City, it is not a problem to play on a Tuesday when Manchester City is competing in all of these competitions; six or seven of the same players start, and the remaining players enter who can play in the Premier League and the Champions League.

“I will argue that you have to be aware of the tragic past and injuries of (Callum) Wilson. Eddie needs to be aware, in my opinion. In the event that Miguel Almiron is unavailable, you will need to purchase a backup striker and winger for your left and right sides. Another extra midfield player because Tonali was also missing.

The Magpies crashed out of the Champions League and have recently lost their form in the Premier League.

Alexander Isak is a lone warrior in the Newcastle attack and Solano’s suggestion makes sense for his old team.
