When Ipswich Town plays Championship leaders Leicester City this evening at Portman Road, its players are excited to play under the lights, according to manager Kieran McKenna.

The Blues have a very difficult challenge ahead of them tonight, but they hope to move over their 4-0 loss to Leeds United on Saturday. After five straight victories, Enzo Maresca’s team is six points clear atop the standings as they head to Suffolk.

McKenna is eager to put all of his attention on the moment, even though he thinks his team will be prepared for the Foxes when they emerge at IP1.

“What a game to look forward to,” he said.

“It’s Boxing Day, we’re at home, full stadium. Of course, it’s a difficult opponent, but we love playing at home, playing at Portman Road.

“It’s always special for these players, but on Boxing Day, it’s always a great occasion. It was last year when we played Oxford.

“We’ll really look forward to the game. We’ll prepare as well and professionally as we can, and it’s a challenge we’re really looking forward to.”

With the match coming so soon after their trip to Elland Road, McKenna may look to rotate his team to keep things fresh.

Town’s squad is big enough to make changes, and that’ll be crucial ahead of upcoming games against QPR and Stoke City in the next few days. The players that start against Leicester tonight will need to give absolutely everything to get a result, and the Northern Irishman wants the fans to do the same.

“To play against Leicester with how good they’ve been and how strong they’ve been, we know it’s going to take every drop of effort that we have in the ground.

“We’re going to need that from the supporters as well. They’ve been fantastic at home and they’ve created a great atmosphere.

“It’s helped us have a really strong home record, and we’re certainly going to need everyone together and all-in for Tuesday night.”
