Nottingham Forest are surprised that the Premier League club did not sign their 28-year-old this summer.

Nottingham Forest were surprised when Luton Town declined their offer to sign Ethan Horvath on a permanent basis. The goalkeeper has been on the bench for the Reds’ first four games of the 2023/24 season.

The Reds were hoping that Rob Edwards would activate the option and bring him to Kenilworth Road on a permanent basis, according to The Athletic. Horvath will now remain at the City Ground unless he is signed by a club in Europe before a number of dates.

Last season, the 28-year-old was a regular for Luton Town. He kept an amazing 20 clean sheets as the Hatters completed their fairytale by winning the Play-Off Final and advancing to the promised land of the Premier League.

He will now be in limbo unless he can get a job somewhere. To create competition, Forest signed Odysseas Vlachodimos on transfer deadline day and added Matt Turner to their ranks in the summer.

Horvath agreed to join Forest from Genk in 2021. He was signed to back up Brice Samba and appeared in 11 games for the Reds as they gained promotion in 2021/22.

Forest was surprised that Luton did not sign Horvath.
From the standpoint of the Forest, this was a bit of a letdown. Horvath is surplus to requirements, and with Wayne Hennessey also at the club, he is unlikely to see any action this season.

Hopefully, something can be done before a number of European deadlines expire. Horvath will want to keep getting called up to the USA, something he is unlikely to do without playing football.

Horvath, the Forest goalkeeper, is a kind guy at the City Ground locker room. He’s filled in for his countryman Turner in the first five games across all competitions, but he’d leap at the chance to play regular football.
