According to Joe Edwards, he would be pleased to see interest in Millwall’s players during the transfer window, as it would indicate that they were putting on impressive displays on the field.

During his press conference to preview the Lions’ trip to Stoke City on Saturday, the head coach was asked if he was concerned that opponents would make a bid for Zian Flemming the following month.

In his debut season with Millwall, the attacker from Amsterdam scored the most goals in English football with 15.

However, Flemming, who Burnley rejected many bids for in the summer, has not been able to have the same kind of impact on games this time around.

The 25-year-old has four goals and has gone eight games without scoring since October 28.

“I’ve been working with Zian for seven games together now and, if I’m honest, my immediate priority with him is to get him to his best form because the standout story with Zi last season was that he scored 15 goals. We’re a team at the moment that is struggling to get results because we’re struggling to put games to bed – to do that we need to score some goals.

“I want to see him back playing with a bit more freedom and scoring goals before I even start considering whether our phone is going to start ringing in January.

“If that happens then it is something we consider, as and when. At the moment we’re a team that isn’t performing to our best level – Zian is a big part of this team. We all need to up our levels and step up.

“Big dogs coming calling for our players is a nice problem that I’d like to have because it would indicate that things are going really well on the pitch. At the moment that is all we’re aiming for – for performance levels on the pitch to improve.”
