  • Wrexham have dropped their effort to recruit Harrogate Town striker Luke Armstrong after the EFL rejected the transaction and apologized to the player and his club for the delay.

On deadline day, the Sky Bet League Two team, owned by Hollywood celebrities Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, struck terms with the 27-year-old and submitted papers for his signing.

The EFL, on the other hand, argued that required material was not filed on time.

  • Wrexham responded by saying they were ‘currently collating all relevant material for a prospective appeal against the judgment,’ but Armstrong has decided to stay in North Yorkshire.

‘Having reviewed the additional information received from the EFL and considered this in the context of the submission of the documents for the transfer of Luke Armstrong from Harrogate Town, the club have determined there is no reasonable chance of success if we were to appeal the EFL’s decision to reject the transfer,’ Wrexham said in a statement.

  • Now that this decision has been made, we would want to apologize to Luke for not being able to complete the move by the deadline, as well as to Harrogate Town, who we are sure will be as sad as we are that the transfer will not now be completed during this window.

‘With all relevant stakeholders, the club will analyze the circumstances and processes that led to this conclusion.’

  • Wrexham’s club record deal for Armstrong fell through after paperwork was not delivered by the 11 p.m. deadline on Friday.

Armstrong agreed a transfer to North Wales on deadline day after MK Dons expressed interest. The fee is thought to be in the region of £500,000.

The 27-year-old went on strike last month in an attempt to push his way out of Harrogate but was forced to return after the EFL declared his switch to Wrexham null and void.

‘The registration of Luke Armstrong from Harrogate to Wrexham was refused due to paperwork not being submitted by the required deadline,’ an EFL representative informed Mail Sport.
