According to Blackpool CEO Julian Winter, every club aspires to emulate the concept of developing players and then selling them on for a high price.

The Seasiders sold Jerry Yates to Swansea City in the summer for a deal reported to be about £2.5million. After making the move to Bloomfield Road from Rotherham United in 2020, the attacker scored 46 goals in 139 appearances.

Winter says that knowing when to sell players is critical and should be taken into account by any organization.

“It was crucial for the club to sell Jerry (Yates) for a fair price,” he stated.

Football is, in the end, a form of food chain. Every club in the country would love to sign players at a low cost or promote from their academy, develop, and have them help to contribute to your success.

The majority of clubs would want to implement some of this strategy if a larger club is willing to pay the cost so they can continue to invest in their team. It plays a significant role in football.

It can only be advantageous if you have a reputation for developing players and fielding a competitive squad.

“That requires talent. It was a nice deal for the club to be demoted and then receive the money they were due for a guy with Jerry’s caliber of work.

“You need to get the timing right and you don’t want too much of it.”
