Prior to the January transfer window, Joao Palhinha has drawn interest from both Arsenal and Liverpool. The midfield player has already spoken out about the possibility of leaving Fulham.

Palhinha nearly signed with Bayern Munich during the summer, but the deal fell through in the last few hours before the transfer deadline.

The Premier League is anticipated to present competition for the Bundesliga team, who are still believed to be keen to attract the Portugal international to the Allianz Arena.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano stated as much to Kick earlier this month: “What I can affirm regarding Palhinha—this has been in the headlines recently—is that English clubs are interested in Palhinha as well.

“Armenia is one of the clubs. It is accurate to say that Arsenal values the player. Palhinha is regarded by certain members of the club as a very talented player. It is one of the guys they have internal discussions about.”

It is unclear if the 29-year-old, who is expected to cost between £70 and £80 million after agreeing to a new five-year contract at Craven Cottage in September, would be pursued by the Gunners or Liverpool.

However, Palhinha has already talked about his future, saying in an interview with the Portuguese publication O Jogo that he thinks he can go even “higher”.

“I don’t know what will happen in the future,” he replied. “My family and I have obviously been greatly impacted, but that is all in the past, and I don’t want to dwell on it too much.

You are aware of what transpired, which is a wonderful source of pride. I prefer to conceive of everything that has happened in my life as having happened for a reason.

“The future will tell me whether what happened was really what had to happen or not, but only the future will show me that.”

Palhinha went on, “I want to keep moving in the same direction since no one has ever handed me anything in my career and because all I’ve accomplished is a result of my value and hard work.

“I hope it stays that way. I’m 28, but I know I can go higher and I’m looking to the future with that ambition.”
