West Ham United had been in terrific form in the first few weeks of the 2023/24 Premier League season, building on last season’s Europa Conference League win.

Only a few months ago, David Moyes was under fire for his side’s struggles in the English Premier League, flattering to deceive and languishing near the bottom of the table, with a match against Nottingham Forest considered a must-win (which they did, 4-0) for the Scottish manager to keep his job.

Lifting the gleaming continental trophy has earned the Irons a third consecutive season in European action and a return to the Europa League.

Given the impressive signings, including Mohammed Kudus, James Ward-Prowse, Edson Alvarez, and Konstantinos Mavropanos, Moyes and co believe United have not yet reached their peak, and despite the £105 million sale of coveted midfielder Declan Rice, ten points from 12 to begin the league season bodes well.

True, such arrivals are impressive, but despite Rice’s departure, United’s fundamental quality has stayed, with none more impressive than Jarrod Bowen, the forward drive’s focal point.

How much did West Ham pay for Jarrod Bowen?
Bowen had been lighting it up in the Championship with Hull City, scoring 54 goals and providing 14 assists in 153 appearances and earning a £22 million transfer in January 2020, on deadline day.

The four-cap England international has been vital in West Ham’s recent ascent, scoring 43 goals and providing 32 assists in 162 appearances and receiving Stephen Killen’s plaudits for his “unreal” performances.

Bowen was a “very humble boy” who wanted “to be the best he could be” while working at the MKM Stadium, according to former Hull assistant manager Cliff Bryne. Bowen earned his move to the London Stadium by raking in 16 goals and seven assists during the first half of the 2019–20 Championship season.
