After being relegated from the Premier League, Leeds United experienced a substantial summer exodus, with 11 players departing on loan deals alone. Anticipating a massive overhaul as they prepared for life in the Championship, the club has since shown strong determination to secure a prompt return to the top flight.

However, irrespective of Leeds’ destiny at the conclusion of the 2023/24 season, they now face the task of evaluating players returning from loan and making decisions about their futures. Despite the temporary nature of some departures, for many players, the exits felt definitive. The circumstances of certain departures left lingering dissatisfaction, and there might be little interest from either the club or some players in a return.

Phil Hay has compiled a comprehensive list of Leeds players currently out on loan, analyzing the likelihood of their resurgence under Daniel Farke. While optimism surrounds some, there are individuals whose destinies away from Elland Road seem predetermined.

In his recent piece for The Athletic, Hay scrutinized each player, pointing out that Max Wöber is likely on the path to an exit. The defender, who had only been with the club for less than six months, departed in the summer for a loan spell at Borussia Mönchengladbach. Wöber’s departure disappointed Leeds, especially considering his initial indication of staying with the club post-relegation. However, he swiftly expressed his desire to move to Germany once Mönchengladbach presented an offer.

For £10 million, Wöber joined Leeds in January and played in 16 Premier League games, starting all but two of them. Leeds appears to have made up their mind after his abrupt departure, as he rationalized his wish to leave in the summer in order to secure his spot in the Austrian national squad.

“They do not see a future in which Wöber plays for them,” according to the Whites. Despite Gladbach’s satisfaction with the 25-year-old’s performance, it is currently thought that no deal has been reached between the Bundesliga team and Leeds for a permanent transfer.
