A player who was loaned out of the London Stadium is expected to return to West Ham United in the summer.

In the last summer transfer window, David Moyes, the manager of West Ham, moved a number of his younger players out on loan.

But the Hammers manager also gave permission for one of his veteran players to temporarily depart the London Stadium.

Flynn Downes arrived at Southampton in the summer, and the Saints manager Russell Martin has already spoken highly of him at St Mary’s, calling him “outstanding” and “monstrous.”

The 24-year-old does appear to be much more at ease in the Championship, and his style of play seems more appropriate for the second division in England.

Nevertheless, it appears like he might still be able to play at the London Stadium in the future.

David Sullivan confidant claims £14 million man is set for a surprise West Ham return after loan spell away

Downes is expected to rejoin the Hammers after his loan stint with Southampton expires, according to Claret and Hugh.

The disclaimer is that Downes’ primary motivation for returning will be to assist the Premier League in meeting its domestic player requirements.

In the summer of 2022, Moyes paid about £14 million to bring the midfield player from Swansea City to West Ham (Wales Online).

He came with a reputation as a hard-charging, ball-winning midfielder, but Moyes didn’t give him enough opportunities to show off his skills; the Scot only gave him 1,507 minutes (Transfermarkt).

The 24-year-old is still, in my opinion, talented enough to be a regular starter at West Ham but still a member of the team.

The midfielder, who was born in Essex, could certainly contribute as a late substitution, in cup ties, and in more difficult away games when we need someone to disrupt play in the middle of the park.

Of course, another huge plus is that he would enable us to meet our indigenous player quota. Currently, it appears that Flynn Downes will rejoin West Ham following the conclusion of his Southampton loan.
