“Atletico Madrid’s Manager, Diego Simeone, Discusses Javi Galan’s Slow Start
Diego Simeone, the manager of Atletico Madrid, has addressed the media regarding the gradual introduction of summer signing Javi Galan into the starting lineup.
Javi Galan, who had earned a reputation as one of Spain’s top left-backs during his time at Celta Vigo, was warmly welcomed by Atletico fans upon his arrival. However, his transition to life in Madrid has been relatively low-key.
While his brief appearances have shown promise, he has yet to secure a starting spot and has played for just 98 minutes across five of Atletico’s 11 games. When questioned about this, Simeone responded on Friday.
“We should remember players like Oblak, Griezmann, or Gimenez, who took a year to establish themselves in the lineup. Javi Galan is displaying a strong desire, enthusiasm, and he is gradually earning minutes, which is the path he needs to follow.”
If Galan takes the field on Saturday, he will be facing his former team, Celta.
Diego was signed in July, 2023 for €3.5 million
“When in transition, Celta is a team that excels, particularly with players like Aspas, known for their constructive and associative style of play. They are skilled at reading their teammates’ movements. Furthermore, they are solid in defense when working in their own half, which results in a complex game.”
Simeone declined to comment on the subject of referees, which has been a prominent issue throughout the season in Spain.
“What concerns me is the upcoming game. I don’t believe I can address all those matters in a two-minute explanation here,” he conveyed to Marca.
Challenging Galan for the left-wingback position is Samuel Lino, who has been in excellent form since replacing Yannick Carrasco. This, in addition to Atletico’s defensive approach in most matches, where players like Lino and Rodrigo Riquelme offer more attacking options, might explain Galan’s limited playing time.”
