The departure of interim managers Steve Thompson and Neil Redfearn from Boundary Park has changed the direction of the search for a new manager for Oldham Athletic.

Thompson oversaw three victories and three draws in his six-game stint as interim manager after David Unsworth was fired last month.

Thompson invited Latics icon Redfearn to help and stated his desire to be hired on a full-time basis.

However, the club stated this morning that the pair had left.

“Steve Thompson and Neil Redfearn have left their position as the interim management team ahead of the club making its next appointment,” a statement from the club stated.

“We would like to officially express our gratitude to Steve and Neil for their efforts in recently taking over the management of the first team.

Paul Murray, the academy manager, will oversee practice in preparation for Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup match against Altrincham.

“An announcement in relation to the managerial position will be made in due course.”

Thompson was appointed head of recruitment for Latics in November of last year and played a key role in the acquisitions of Devarn Green, Josh Lundstram, and Shaun Hobson, among others. He won’t be taking up his prior position with the club, according to The Oldham Times.
