West Ham director, Tim Steidten, has received plaudits from Fabrizio Romano for his role in persuading Jarrod Bowen to sign a new deal at London Stadium.

The England international has been in outstanding form to start the 2023–24 season, but it has led to rumors of him leaving the Hammers.

On Sunday, October 8, Bowen put an end to such rumors by signing a brand-new seven-year contract with the team. Romano said it was “like a new signing” for the Irons given the growing interest in the versatile attacker, who was set to become a free agency in 20 months.

According to Romano on his Daily Briefing (10 October), “Jarrod Bowen’s new deal with West Ham is an important one because it was not an easy negotiation.”

“Bowen has been wanted by many other clubs, not in terms of official bids, but many top teams were discussing his name internally, while scouts were keeping an eye on him as he’s been doing very well at West Ham.

“The negotiation was tough, but in the end Bowen was 100% convinced about West Ham’s project. They’re going to another stage of their process now, and after lengthy talks they were successful in convincing Bowen.

“Also the new director has been crucial, convincing key players to stay at the club but also in finding top players like Mohammed Kudus to join.

“A new extension like Bowen is like a new signing, in my opinion, because in modern football it’s so difficult to keep your star names, so congratulations to them because it’s like almost like they’ve signed a new top player.”

Many West Ham supporters may have believed the worst about Bowen’s future at West Ham at one time last week. The former Hull City star, who will always be remembered for his win in the Europa Conference League final, was said to be a target for teams like Arsenal, Liverpool, and Newcastle United.

For a number of months, there had been rumours of a new contract being reached, but the length of time it took for anything official to emerge from the club indicated that there had been no progress.

Even if it were the case, a resolution was eventually reached, and West Ham supporters may now celebrate. Even if the new seven-year contract does not guarantee Bowen will stay at the club for that long, the initiative now lies with West Ham.

Steidten and the others who worked behind the scenes deserve praise for completing this transaction. Hopefully Bowen will have many more enjoyable moments at West Ham in the future.
