In a live debate on talkSPORT, Andy Goldstein dismissed claims that Arsenal player Declan Rice was “not too good” for West Ham.

Rice left West Ham for London rivals Arsenal in a £105 million trade in July, after helping the Hammers win the Europa Conference League the month before.

On Friday’s episode of ‘The Social’ (6 October, 16:25), a caller stated that Rice could not consider himself too excellent for West Ham.

“Oh, come on,” host Goldstein responded, before adding, “Sometimes, a player is so good that he needs to test himself at a higher level, which is what Declan Rice has done.”

West Ham fans are no doubt tired of the ‘too good’ discussion three months after fan favorite Rice’s departure. The England international was in the final year of his contract, which influenced the club’s decision to sell him during the summer transfer window.

Finally, enough water has flowed under the bridge for Hammers fans to put a line under the entire issue. The nine-figure amount paid for Rice has helped to assemble an even stronger group than the one that won on the continent last season.

Rice has settled in nicely at Emirates Stadium, and while it is difficult to watch him wearing a rival club’s jersey, his decision must be accepted. This is one of the few occasions where a transfer benefits all three parties – the buying club, the selling club, and the player.
