Agbonlahor predicts Joachim Andersen will join Newcastle United in January. “I think highly of him”.
Joachim Andersen, a defender for Crystal Palace, is a “great signing” for Newcastle, according to Gabby Agbonlahor, who also cautioned that they might have to pay a premium for him.
In an exclusive interview with Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa striker said he might be “priced out of a move” by the London club in January. In advance of the January transfer window, Newcastle is closely watching Crystal Palace star Andersen, according to a report from Football Insider published on October 1st.
The Danish international has long been a target for the Magpies, who also made a late-summer offer that Palace turned down. The defender’s deal at Selhurst Park runs through June 2026. He reportedly paid £17 million to join Palace from Lyon. Andersen has played every minute for Roy Hodgson’s side this season, scoring twice – and also impressed in the 2022-23 campaign.
Due to Sven Botman’s knee injury and the interest from Newcastle, Jamaal Lascelles was inserted into the team that defeated Burnley on Saturday, September 30.
I don’t see why Palace would want to sell him, especially in January, Agbonlahor said to Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury. He and Guehi work well together, thus Newcastle will incur significant expenses.
“It’s a terrific signing if they’re ready to pay a lot of money. I think highly of him.
But perhaps Crystal Palace will make a move too expensive for him. In the middle of the season, it will be challenging to replace him.
