Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is no longer playing “in the wrong way” after taking on board Enzo Maresca’s feedback.

Following a brace in Wednesday night’s 3-0 victory over Preston at the King Power Stadium, the Leicester City midfielder now leads the Championship with eight goal involvements.

Prior to the September international break, Dewsbury-Hall seemed to be making an excessive effort to be City’s savior by frequently taking long-range shots. He is now enhancing the team’s performance, though, after talking with boss Maresca over the international break. He assisted on goals for McAteer at Southampton and Norwich and has already scored three times inside the penalty area over the past two games.

“To be honest, I’m especially happy for Kiernan because he is improving in the decision-making and in the choices,” Maresca said after the win over Preston. “If you remember in the first game, he was shooting from his house! He was shooting from everywhere!

“Now at the edge of the box, he is patient and maintains the ball. He is improving. He is giving assists. Remember the Southampton assist, the Norwich assist, tonight he was at the edge of the box, he played with Wilf (Ndidi), Wilf played with Kele (Iheanacho) and we scored. These kinds of things, he’s improving a lot.

“He has to understand that probably at the beginning, he wanted to show everyone how important he is in the wrong way. Now he’s showing everyone how important he is by playing easy, simple. We are very happy for him.”

With his two goals, Dewsbury-Hall has a total of eight goals and assists for the year, tying Plymouth’s Ryan Hardie and Southampton’s Adam Armstrong for the most goal involvements in the league. That is assisting him in his quest to be named the league’s top player.

“I said it at the start of the season and I meant it,” Dewsbury-Hall told BBC Radio Leicester. “I’m just delighted that I can keep contributing to the team.

“I’m finding myself in good positions and I’m happy that I could take the chances because in previous weeks I’ve had some good chances and not taken them. It’s just about believing in my ability and not letting my head drop if chances goes astray.

“The most important thing is we got the three points and whether that’s me scoring or anyone else scoring, it doesn’t matter. It’s just nice to look at the table and see us in first place.”
