Vincent Kompany appears to be a big fan…

Burnley finally got off the mark in the Premier League, securing all three points against Luton Town earlier in the week to end a winless run of six games on their return to the top flight. Vincent Kompany will undoubtedly be a relieved man, with a defeat against the Hatters potentially resulting in some awkward questions.

The Manchester City legend will now hope to see the Clarets kick on, and move away from the fear of the drop zone. Things don’t get any easier, however, with a Chelsea side fresh from a feel-good victory over Fulham coming up next. No matter how that result goes, Burnley appear to be eyeing January reinforcements, with one particular star targeted.

What’s the latest Burnley transfer news?

Burnley chose to bring in young players with the potential to be outstanding stars at Turf Moor rather than bringing in veterans with more Premier League experience, as past newly-promoted teams have done. This was an unusual choice. While we have yet to see how their strategy will play out, the Clarets have at least shown that they are ready to pay by reportedly spending €112 million (£98 million) on reinforcements. When the winter transfer window opens, they may decide to spend more money.

Burnley is one of the teams keeping tabs on Millwall sensation Romain Esse, who is only 18 years old, according to TeamTalk. The freshly promoted Premier League team aren’t alone in their interest in the midfielder, with a number of top-flight clubs keeping a watch on the youngster. The signing would certainly fit with Kompany’s transfer method, as the manager is known to be a great supporter of the player. It will be intriguing to see whether Esse chooses to remain at Millwall for the remainder of the season, or if Burnley attempts to win the competition for his signature in January.

Who is Romain Esse?

Esse, who has played in eight of Millwall’s ten Championship games this season while still only 18 years old, even scored his first goal as a professional against Middlesbrough on the opening weekend. The midfielder has received a lot of acclaim during his still very short career, notably from boss Rowett, who recently stated the following regarding Esse and Aidomo Emakhu via Southwark News:

“Over the course of pre-season, they’ve both been very, very good. They’ve probably been two of our better players. I could have easily put more senior players on who have played at higher levels and with more experience but I just felt as though they give you something unpredictable. Aidomo’s pacy and has power but he also has very good end product. And Rom just has great quality. He’s just a talented, talented player. I thought they combined really well.”

So, it might only be a matter of time before Esse starts competing at the highest level. It remains to be seen whether that occurs as a result of a transfer to Burnley. The kid would surely fit in at Turf Moor and the manager’s philosophy of encouraging young players, of whom Kompany is allegedly a great fan.
