Former manager of Nottingham Forest is set to replace Michael Beale as he is now in a “strong” position to lead Rangers.

Billy Davies, a former manager of Nottingham Forest, is rumored to want the Rangers position.

Following a disappointing start to the new season at Ibrox, Rangers fired manager Michael Beale on Sunday and are now searching for a replacement. Since being fired by Forest more than nine years ago, Davies has not managed a football team and is reportedly interested in making a comeback in Glasgow.

According to The Daily Record, Davies intends to strengthen his application for the top position at Ibrox by putting together a skilled backroom team with “strong” Rangers links. He reportedly already has “strong support” from influential club members.

Davies served as Forest’s manager twice. In his first season as manager, he led the Reds to the Championship Playoffs twice, however in 2010 and 2011, they were defeated in the semifinals both times.

He left the club in the summer of 2011 but came back in February 2013 while it was still owned by Fawaz Al Hasawi. His second stint as manager at the City Ground, however, was disastrous, and Al Hasawi fired him after just over a year. He received his dismissal order following an embarrassing 5-0 loss to Derby County at Pride Park.

According to The Record, Davies has spent the majority of his time away from football due to family obligations. He has previously turned down offers from Championship and League One clubs, but is now eager to return to management at the top level.
