Harry Arter refuses to end his £40k-per-week Nottingham Forest contract despite not playing for two years and the club’s desperate sale of the midfielder due to his fitness return

Arter (middle) isn’t involved with the Forest first-team but is still raking in £40,000-per-week having made only 14 appearances in the past two years.

After failing to reach an agreement to end his tenure at the City Ground, Harry Arter is resolved to see out his contract at Nottingham Forest.

The 33-year-old joined the club while Forest were still in the Championship three years ago after completing a permanent transfer from Bournemouth, but has yet to appear for the team in the Premier League.

Arter’s last appearance for the club was a two-minute cameo against Preston in 2021, and despite not playing for the first team, the midfielder is still earning £40,000 a week.

Arter’s last appearance for the club was a two-minute cameo against Preston in 2021, and despite not playing for the first team, he still earns £40,000 per week.

Recent loan stints with National League clubs Arter was given nine appearances for Notts County outside of England’s professional league setup. In the same season, he played for Charlton Athletic in the FA Cup and League One.

Further concern has been expressed within the Forest camp as Arter was alleged to have returned for pre-season in an unfit state, which irritated club employees.

Forest, like other Premier League clubs, undertake fitness tests once players return from summer vacations, with Arter two kilograms overweight.

Arter was left out of Forest boss Steve Cooper’s first two Premier League teams for the season.

According to sources, the player lacks motivation to attempt and force his way into Steve Cooper‘s first-team and is instead focused exclusively on seeing out the duration of his contract.

His current contract ends at the conclusion of the current season, but Forest have been proactive in seeking a solution for him to continue playing somewhere.

For the second year in a row, Arter was not picked to Forest’s Premier League squad and is instead working with the club’s academy teams.

Forest have struggled to deal with Arter’s agent, Paul Martin, and believe they are putting financial gain ahead of seeking to find an acceptable solution to terminate his contract.

Since joining Forest, Arter has made just 14 senior appearances. Mail Sport has reached out to the player’s agent for comment.
