According to a report from Coventry Live, defender Milan Van Ewijk of Coventry City has been diagnosed with a major muscular rupture, dealing Mark Robins’ team yet another setback.

After Ben Sheaf’s injury over the international break, the Dutch full-back is Coventry’s second serious injury blow in as many weeks, adding to the strain on Mark Robins’ team.

How has he started?

Van Ewijk has made eight appearances across all competitions this season since moving to England for a seven-figure sum from Dutch team SC Heerenveen.

The 22-year-old just scored his first goal in English football during a 3-3 draw with Watford at the CBS Arena when he converted a free-kick.

What has Mark Robins said?

Ben Sheaf, who was recently out for at least six weeks with a groin injury for Coventry City, will now likely be added to the list of casualties, according to manager Mark Robins. He said…

It is not excellent at all! His quad has a large tear, so I’m not sure how long he will live.

Who’s likely to replace him?

There are three prospective right-back candidates for the Sky Blues, but Mark Robins’ plans ahead of Monday’s match are still unknown.

the signing of Tatushiro Sakamoto, who replaced Van Ewijk in the match against Cardiff City on Tuesday, is the front-runner to fill the vacancy. Josh Eccles, a midfielder, had previously played there but is now playing there due to Ben Sheaf’s injury. Jay Dasilva, meantime, may go to the right side, but Robins seems to be keeping his options open.

Writer’s View

In my honest opinion, Van Ewijk’s injury has come at the worst possible time for Mark Robins’ team, especially in light of Ben Sheaf’s injury.

However, in preparation for a challenging meeting against Darren Moore’s Huddersfield Town team, the Sky Blues have reinforcements already in the building.
