Jessica Creighton of Sky Sports hist was perplexed by a late Brandon Thomas-Asante incident when West Brom met Watford in the Championship.

The analyst voiced her surprise on Sky Sports News (20 September, 9:26 p.m.) that Thomas-Asante’s failed 80th-minute attempt was saved by Watford goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann after Jeremey Sarmiento’s into-the-box pass for the 24-year-old.

The Watford goalkeeper had to make a fine save to prevent the Baggies from grabbing a 3-2 lead late in the game, but Creighton urged Thomas-Asante to be more decisive.

“It’s West Brom’s Jeremy Sarmiento charging forward down the middle,” Creighton added. He poked the ball into his right foot and just lays it off to Brandon Thomas-Asante, who’s one on one with the goalkeeper and you thought, ‘put it wherever past the goalkeeper’.

“And Daniel Bachmann makes a fantastic save to keep the ball out of the net.” Somehow, it’s still 2-2. “I’m not sure how.”

On the surface, both West Brom and Watford deserved to depart Vicarage Road with a share of the spoils following their goal-filled Championship clash.

In the dying moments of the game, either team could have taken all of the points. For the Hornets, Adama Traore missed an absolute sitter right before stoppage time, with Aaron Collonely’s into-the-box ball putting the striker in position for an open goal.

His effort eventually hit the crossbar, but the game’s goals were exhausted by the 23rd minute, when Matteus Martins’ long-range effort leveled the score for Valérien Ismael’s side.

Thomas-Asante had a good game against Watford, with two shots on goal, three successful dribbles, and six successful ground duels, but his missed opportunity late in the game could have, or perhaps should have, given his Baggies their first win since late August [SofaScore].

Both teams finished the game with nothing between them – both on the field and at the table. The Baggies’ start will not be ideal, but on the face of it, they would take a point against a fellow promotion-chasing club like the Hornets.

But Carlos Corberan must have been furious that his striker couldn’t bring all three points back to Birmingham late in the day.
