Newcastle United is still awaiting approval to buy Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi.

With Newcastle United, negotiations have been ongoing since the end of July in order to sign Marc Guehi.

There has been a rising amount of confidence that Guehi will join Newcastle during this summer’s transfer season as rumours of a move to Tyneside intensified last week.

Blockbuster signing Guehi would be a huge addition, and he is reportedly eager to join Newcastle.

Newcastle was considering making a better offer after their initial Guehi deal was turned down.

But, everything has been a little quieter with the 24-year-old switching from Selhurst Park to St. James’ Park.

When Newcastle United could sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace

There had been hope that Newcastle would have signed Guehi this week – possibly in time to feature in the Sela Weekender. Eddie Howe’s side play two friendlies at St James’ Park this weekend, facing Girona on Friday followed by a clash with Stade Brestois on Saturday.

However, a new report suggests that a breakthrough in negotiations could be delayed until after the weekend.

By early next week, hopefully, more progress will have been made, as reported by the Daily Mail.

That might be the moment of breakthrough, as the Daily Mail also reports that Palace is aware of how difficult it will be to hold onto Guehi.

Newcastle should sign Guehi as soon as possible. It is not surprising that this deal is taking a while to close given the financial stakes.

Guehi’s potential £65 million transfer to Newcastle may make him a club record signing. However, Guehi should join with Newcastle as soon as possible for a few reasons.

First, there will be concern that Newcastle’s proposal may be manipulated until the deal is finalised. Danny Murphy, for instance, believes Liverpool will make a move for Guehi.

Second, Howe will want Guehi to sign so that he can begin training before the Magpies play their opening match of the season.

That is one week from Saturday, August 17, versus Southampton. Guehi’s chances of starting that game against the Saints decrease with the length of time this transfer takes.

Rather, Dan Burn and Fabian Schar will probably form the core of Newcastle’s defensive. Although time is running out, there is apparently optimism that by the beginning of the following week, a breakthrough may be possible.
