Chelsea Deterred by £40m Asking Price for Leicester City’s Mads Hermansen

Chelsea look set to sign Filip Jörgensen this week, having moved quickly for the young Villarreal goalkeeper after reportedly deciding to enter the market for an upgrade at the position.

But if reports from Denmark are to be believed, Jörgensen wasn’t actually our first choice. And, in fact, we had been trying to make a signing at the position for longer than reported by the usual sources in England as well.

The claim from Bold (via Sport Witness) unsurprisingly involves Leicester City goalkeeper Mads Hermansen, Enzo Maresca’s “greatest wish”. Jörgensen’s fellow Denmark international played a key role for Maresca last year after being brought in specifically for his ball-playing skills at the start of the season. His name had cropped up in speculation about what we might do at the position earlier this summer, but this is the first time we’ve been linked more seriously.

However, according to the report, we have already baulked at Leicester’s £40m asking price, resulting in turning our attentions further afield. The expected fee for Jörgensen will be just half that amount.
