Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth has ruled out one of Leeds United’s potential winger targets this summer.

The Whites are likely to be in the market for new wide men over the course of the coming weeks with both Crysencio Summerville and Willy Gnonto wanted elsewhere.

The two exciting youngsters have both been deemed as the most likely departees at Elland Road following the club’s failure to win promotion.

Summerville is wanted by a host of Premier League clubs including Brighton, though despite reports, it would appear a move has not yet been advanced in any way.

Gnonto, meanwhile, has been linked with a return to Italy and there has been some suggestion of a bid from Nottingham Forest, but again, that seems premature.

Smyth shares whether Jaidon Anthony could return to Leeds

Athletic journalist Nancy Froston has claimed Leeds could target a move for FC Basel’s Liam Millar, if one or both of Summerville and Gnonto leave.

Of course, if they were to both depart, that would take the number of wingers to have left Leeds this summer to three, with Jaidon Anthony‘s loan spell having come to an end.

From the current squad, Dan James is the only other recognised winger, though Brenden Aaronson and Georginio Rutter are certainly both capable of playing there.

It would be interesting to see if Daniel Farke would like to go into the new season with four wingers again, given how little Anthony played. He started just two league games throughout the campaign.

Andoni Iraola has claimed he would like to take a look at him during Bournemouth’s pre-season again, but they would be open to selling at the right price.

Speaking on the latest episode of the Inside Elland Road Podcast, Smyth has suggested that it will not be Leeds who make an attempt to bring him back, though.

He said: “We know they are looking at wingers and are going to have to look at wingers because they have lost one, Jaidon Anthony has gone back and I don’t imagine he will comeback to Leeds next season.

“I would be incredibly surprised if that was the case because he wants to play football and Daniel Farke didn’t really play him. It wasn’t the happiest of seasons for him.”

What has Anthony said about his Leeds future?

Anthony seemingly dropped a hint via his official Instagram account that he would not be returning to Elland Road shortly after the end of the season.

The 24-year-old, who Mateo Joseph labelled a ‘really good player’ after his two assist performance at Chelsea, instead shared how grateful he was to have had the opportunity to play for Leeds.

He wrote: “An honour to wear this shirt! No secret this has been the toughest year of my life but your support has got me through!

“Not the end any of us wanted but I’ve met some amazing people and created some special memories playing for this club! Thank you Leeds fans, you are something special.”
