West Ham United want to sign Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka to bolster their right-back options, according to The Times.

Writing on their website (26 June), the news outlet report that the Hammers have revived their interest in the 26-year-old who has been made surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.

Ben Johnson has rejected a new deal at the London Stadium and looks set to join Ipswich, and Julen Lopetegui now wants to add competition for Vladimir Coufal to his squad with the former Crystal Palace man on the shortlist of options.

Wan-Bissaka has been regarded as “defensively one of the best in the world” for a while now because of his ability in one versus one situations.

That is a brilliant attribute to have when playing for a team like West Ham, as it will allow for Lopetegui to push players forward a bit more but also help the team when they need to sit in.

With just one year remaining on his contract the likelihood is that the fee needed to sign him won’t be anywhere near the £50million that Man United spent to sign him from Crystal Palace back in 2019.

It could represent a fantastic opportunity to bring in a player from the highest level to bolster the squad, and with Vladimir Coufal’s future far from certain too it could be an ideal arrival.

With Max Kilman also being targeted as a priority [Northern Echo, 25 June], it could be a new-look defence at the London Stadium next season and fans should be excited about the potential of the squad.
