Carlos Corberan offers ‘vital’ message on what West Brom need from other players as four players named Carlos Corberan has highlighted what West Brom need from other players as Josh Maja’s injury news has been revealed.West Brom boss Corberan shares update on Maja after injury scare at Bristol City - Soccernet NG

On Tuesday (19 September), the Albion manager told BirminghamLive that it’s “important to keep everyone fit” after admitting that the 24-year-old attacker has been ruled out for at least two months due to an ankle ligament damage suffered in the goalless draw with Bristol City.

He also mentioned that the Baggies will require one of their wingers to play as a striker, listing Matt Phillips, Jed Wallace, Tom Fellows, and Grady Diangana as possible choices.

“The key now, the focus, is to develop the players that we have,” Corberan explained. “It’s true that we couldn’t bring in a player who could play as a third striker, which is why we need to play with players who can play as strikers if Asante isn’t available.”

“It’s critical to keep everyone fit because the more players you have fit and ready to compete in the games, the more options you’ll have.” Let’s see who’s in the game. Just because [Matt] Phillips has played there doesn’t indicate he’ll play there again; [Jed] Wallace can play there, as can Phillips, and [Tom] Fellows can play there, despite the fact that they’re all wingers.

“In the end, we need a striker or a winger who can play as a striker – the playmakers are [Jeremy] Sarmiento and [John] Swift.” Phillips, Wallace, and even [Grady] Diangana can play on the wings. We’ll need them to fill in there.”

Many worried that when the transfer window closed, West Brom would be left short in the forward area,s and those fears have already been realized.

While there are other choices that can fill in for Brandon Thomas-Asante if he isn’t available, it’s not a decision Corberan wants to have to make.

It’s also a good thing Albion opted to remain hard on their valuation of the 24-year-old after receiving bids from Stoke City near the end of the transfer window, since they may have found themselves in a difficult situation presently.
