Newcastle United wants to bolster their roster this summer, and they are keen to sign Queens Park Rangers keeper Asmir Begovic.

According to a recent rumor from West London Sport, Newcastle United is keen to sign Asmir Begovic, the keeper from Queens Park Rangers. It has been reported, though, that the Magpies may have competition from West Ham United and a few Saudi teams for the services of the seasoned goalkeeper this summer.

Begovic’s Impressive Season At Loftus Road

The 36-year-old has had a good season with the London club, where he has performed admirably for them in the EFL Championship. Begovic made 46 appearances for QPR in various competitions last season, giving up 60 goals and maintaining 13 clean sheets.

The veteran keeper has done well to average 0.5 clearances and 4.7 long balls per game in the EFL Championship. However, he has lacked quality when distributing the ball from the back after completing 64.7% of his attempted passes in the English second tier (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at Loftus Road will expire at the end of this month. Hence, the Magpies could sign him on a free transfer later this summer.
