Newcastle United are desperate for another striker before the new season and it turns out that one of the world’s best is available for next to nothing this summer.
A post on X by @DeadlineDayLive has revealed that World Cup-winning striker Antoine Griezmann could be available this summer for just €15million (£12.8million).
Granted Griezmann is now 33 but he’s still doing the business.
The France international hit 24 goals and eight assists in 48 games for Atletico Madrid this season which included six goals in the Champions League.
There’s bound to be no end of clubs interested but Newcastle would be crazy not to get involved at that price, and he may well be interested in a stint on Tyneside.
Griezmann has yet to tick off playing in the Premier League which is often on all top players’ bucket lists.
Then there’s also the fact that Griezmann famously led Newcastle to five trophies on Football manager with his €134million (£114.5million) striker Kylian Mbappe up front, boasting about it to the man himself while on a flight in the viral video put on social media by ESPN.
You’ve got to have dreams
Mbappe didn’t seem keen on the weather here, but Griezmann clearly has some sort of affinity for the Toon so let’s exploit it and bring him in for a season or two.
Imagine having Alexander Isak backed up by Griezmann and Callum Wilson next season, now that’s three strikers who know where the back of the net is.
It’ll probably not happen, but we can dream, can’t we?
