The Premier League transfer window technically opens on Friday, June 14. However, it appears Everton is moving forward with its business before then.

Because of their careless spending habits, the Toffees have frequently suffered from incompetent transfer linkages over the years.

Since they were almost impossible to foresee, anything went. Everything was reasonable because Farhad Moshiri’s propensity to purchase anything from anybody at any time made sense.

But with PSR ramping up more than ever and their Iranian billionaire support disappearing, this is a team struggling to find new players in a market where they have little influence.

However, some reasonable transactions are already being revealed; this new information surfaced just one day after Kalvin Phillips’ Everton connections did.

Everton want Weston McKennie

The latest comes courtesy of Italian outlet Tutto Juve, who suggest that the Toffees are one of a few Premier League teams seeking to return Weston McKennie to the division.

That is, despite that disastrous spell with Leeds United hardly endearing him to English football, given he massively underperformed and was subsequently relegated.

However, he still seemingly has Everton, Aston Villa and Newcastle United chasing him, with the report actually stating they are ‘observing him carefully.’

With a potential price tag of €25m (£21m) though, Kevin Thelwell is unlikely to be interested, and may have to do some serious negotiating amidst the threat of ‘possible offers’ from all three.

Clearly, despite that nightmare six-month loan at Elland Road, he remains a ‘very popular’ figure amongst English top-flight clubs.

It seems strange that any of these three clubs would be in for McKennie, given the mini-audition he gave in Yorkshire.

After all, Everton will not want to spend such a sum given the risk he poses and their relegation worries were they to suffer another points deduction.

Meanwhile, neither the Magpies nor the Villans will want to risk a PSR breach for a player of his calibre.

Brought in under Jesse Marsch’s regime at Leeds United, the USA international was expected to fire his loan team to safety, given his pedigree at Juventus.

However, he would do everything but, featuring in 19 Premier League games but providing just one goal contribution, an assist.

With an average of just 0.7 crucial passes per game, he lacked creativity and did not set the pace, as seen by his 78% pass accuracy. With his 1.5 tackles per game a pitiful return, McKennie even failed to contribute in a defensive role, raising the issue of what exactly went wrong.

Thelwell and Sean Dyche cannot afford to take such a chance, particularly given the poor picture that the small number of his performances in England present.
