Joe Rodon has hailed “very vocal” Connor Roberts ahead of the Championship playoff final between Leeds United and Southampton.

Both players are on loan at Leeds and will hope to cap off their temporary spells at Elland Road with promotion back to the Premier League.

Rodon is confident that the fans will be just as vocal at Wembley on 26 May and praised that quality in his teammate and fellow loanee Roberts.

Speaking on the Official Leeds United Podcast (24 May), he said: “The fans have been amazing and I’m sure when we go to Wembley, we’ll hear them most of the game. It is going to be a special occasion for all of us but we have a very good group here, with a lot of leaders.

“Even someone like Connor, who is very vocal in the dressing room, who always says all the right things. On the pitch as well, although I can’t really hear him on the pitch.”

Should Leeds United look to sign Connor Roberts permanently?

Leeds’ approach to the upcoming summer transfer window is likely to be heavily dictated by the outcome of their playoff final against Southampton at Wembley.

Should the Whites be successful in returning to the Premier League after just one season away, they will be in a far stronger position to pursue transfer targets or retain loanees such as Rodon and Roberts.

Rodon’s regular place in the heart of what has been an impressive Whites defence for the vast majority of the season makes Leeds’ interest in retaining his services a forgone conclusion, but the situation is less clear with Roberts.

Joe Rodon joined Leeds United on loan from Tottenham

Since arriving on loan from Burnley in January, a combination of injuries and the form of Archie Gray and Sam Byram has limited the right-back to just 413 minutes of action across all competitions.

However, while his signing is not likely to be viewed as a priority – particularly if Leeds stay in the Championship – his positive influence in the dressing room, Gray’s clear future in midfield and Byram’s own injury struggles, alongside Burnley’s relegation back to the second tier, could make the Welshman a sensible acquisition.
