Rangers are set to complete their first signing of the summer after agreeing a deal for Brazilian left-back Jefte, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Writing on his personal X account (22 May), the transfer expert reports that the 20-year-old is on his way to complete a medical with the Ibrox club before putting pen to paper on a contract.

A deal to sign him in January collapsed after APOEL refused to break his loan deal, but a deal for the summer was agreed then and Philippe Clement is set to welcome the new left-back to his squad.

“Rangers are set to complete deal to sign Brazilian LB Jefte, confirmed and here we go!” he wrote.

“Understand Jefte is on his way to complete the medical tests and sign the contract as new Rangers player.

“As revealed in January, Scottish side prepared it all for the summer window.”

Rangers getting to business very quickly

The season isn’t even over yet in Glasgow but Clement said there would be changes with the squad and he has been true to his word already.

Borna Barisic looks sure to leave the club and join Trabzonspor when his contract expires at the end of the month, and that means a new left-back was needed to cover for Ridvan Yilmaz.

Jefte is someone the club have looked at a lot clearly and they continued to track him since January, when their interest went up a level.

They have now stuck to their word and moved to bring him in early, which is a good sign as Nils Koppen and Clement can now start to look at other areas of the pitch that need bolstering.

There will no doubt be more incoming, and with exits set to be confirmed after the Scottish Cup final we can expect plenty more news in the coming weeks.
