Burnley will put up “all out” effort to defeat Nottingham Forest in the season finale at home, according to Vincent Kompany.

After the Clarets’ 2-1 loss to Tottenham last Saturday, there was no longer any chance of a winner-take-all match at Turf Moor on Sunday, confirming the team’s relegation.

Even yet, Kompany stated following Spurs’ loss that he would begin planning an instant return to the Premier League and would not consider the idea that his team might lose to Forest.

“We will go all out, definitely,” Kompany told a press conference.

“If we are treating this as the first game of next season, in terms of preparing for that season, then you know this is an important game and go all out.

“There are a couple of a personal stories attached to the game because some players might be playing their last game and so on.

“Winning the game is the most important thing, but we want to be mindful of that too.”

Given that the contracts of Charlie Taylor, Johann Berg Gudmundsson, Jack Cork, and Jay Rodriguez expire this summer, decisions must be taken regarding their futures.

“Some decisions you make, some decisions others make,” Kompany continued.

“It goes without saying that we have a few players who are not under contract, so hopefully we can work something out in the coming days.”

“In any case, common sense wins out. I can’t give you much more information than that.”

Josh Brownhill is one player who is not expected to say goodbye, as Clarets manager Kompany disclosed that the option to extend his contract by an additional year had been activated.
