As West Ham United looks to bolster their roster this summer, they will face fierce competition for RSC Anderlecht center-back Zeno Debast.

Sport Witness reported recently that RSC Anderlecht center-back Zeno Debast is a target for West Ham United, and that the team is up against fierce competition. It has been reported that the Hammers will face competition from teams like Napoli and Sporting CP in order to get the Belgian talent.

Debast’s Impressive Form In Belgian Football

Debast is enjoying a solid campaign at the Belgian club after putting in a string of impressive displays at the heart of Anderlecht’s backline. The 20-year-old has made 38 appearances for his current employers this season but has failed to score or create a goal for them across all fronts.

In 90 minutes in La Liga, the talented young player has averaged 1.5 tackles, 1.0 interceptions, and 4.8 clearances. He deserves some recognition for being a rock in the back. Considering that his pass completion percentage in premier football is 84.1%, he has even shown caution when delivering the ball from inside his half (data via whoscored).

His current contract at Anderlecht will expire at the end of next season which could open the door for the Hammers to sign him on a cut-price deal later this year.

Should West Ham United Snap Debast Up This Summer?

Debast can sense the danger well to earn the ball back for his team on the defensive third of the pitch. He is a good tackler of the ball and doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed. The Belgian whizkid is even proficient at playing his way out from the back. He is primarily a central defender but can also function as a defensive midfielder if told to do so.

Debast would give West Ham’s defense additional bite and sturdiness. He can contend for a regular starting position at the London Stadium in the upcoming campaign. The 20-year-old Belgian talent could go on to become a major player in European football.

So when the transfer window opens at the end of this season, the Hammers would be smart to go all out to sign Debast. Nevertheless, time will tell if he can adjust to life in the Premier League football league without any problems.
