Numerous names are being considered as Sunderland continues its search for a new manager.

Concerns about the identity of the Sunderland AFC head coach are growing. The Sun reports that Bo Svensson, a Danish coach, is starting to emerge as an unexpected contender for the position left empty by Michael Beale’s departure in February.

Under interim head coach Mike Dodds, Sunderland’s decline in the Championship was concerning, as they ended in 16th place.
Svensson is just one of the numerous names that have been thrown around during the past two months. The 44-year-old was a defender in his previous career. Most recently, he served as Mainz 05’s head coach in the Bundesliga. Svensson played for the Danish national team three times throughout his playing career.

After quitting the German club, he became available, and the Black Cats are apparently considering him as a potential next manager.
After Paul Heckingbottom’s efforts helped elevate Sheffield United to the top flight, Sunderland gave him some thought, but it seems that their interest has waned. After leaving Reims, Will Still is also available and has been highly recommended for the role.

If they can meet Svensson’s goals, he might be more appealing and inclined to play in the Championship. It’s understandable that Sunderland supporters would simply want the team to name someone to restore some stability. It’s also anticipated that the next manager may convince one or two of their best players to remain on Wearside, but until a new man takes over, nothing can be done.
