Despite leading by six points, the captain of the Hoops insists the winners aren’t prepared to let up.
Callum McGregor praised Celtic’s “big” victory over Rangers but insisted that they are determined to finish the season on a high note and are not ready to let up.
After their 2-1 victory on Saturday, the Hoops are in possession of the Premiership trophy and only need a point from their final two games to guarantee their title as champions for a third year in a row.
The Rangers, who used 10 men for the majority of the game, were defeated by an own goal by John Lundstram and a strike by Matt O’Riley to complete the three points.
Celtic’s next game comes against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on Wednesday. They play St. Mirren at home the following Saturday to round out their league campaign.
Following that, they play in the Old Firm Scottish Cup final, where they may win a double, and McGregor believes they won’t be sitting back just yet.
Speaking after Saturday’s victory, he said: “I can only speak for us, to be honest. I can only speak for what’s in our dressing room. And, listen it’s never going to be perfect.
“Of course, you can have bad days in these fixtures, it’s two good sides coming up against each, you need to fine details to drop for you as well, but I can only look after what’s in our dressing room and try and give the boys as much confidence and and togetherness as possible and I think so far in the games we’ve showed up reasonably well.
“We understand there’s another big one at the end of the season as well. I think the result today is obviously a big one in terms of the six points, it gives us a bit of breathing space.
“We want to go and win the next two games and and have a strong end to the season and understand that the cup final is still to play as well.
“Therefore, I don’t think it matters if we win the following game.” We are aware that there is still work to be done before the season ends, I believe.
“We keep pushing and trying to get better, so we try to get over the line.”
