This summer, Eddie Howe will have to resolve a goalkeeping conundrum at Newcastle United.

Andy Cole thinks Aaron Ramsdale, an Arsenal forgotten man, would perform “a good job” for Newcastle United.

A transfer to Tyneside is reportedly being considered for the 25-year-old due to the current goalie situation. Nick Pope arrived from Burnley nearly two years ago and has been the uncontested No. 1 at St James’ Park ever since.

However, the 31-year-old has been out for five months due to a relapse of a shoulder injury sustained against Manchester United. In his place, Martin Dubravka has filled in, while Loris Karius has also been called upon.

Due to Pope’s injury, Newcastle has scored an incredible 35 goals in just 17 games, raising questions about the goalkeeping position. Despite being included in the Premier League Team of the Season the previous year, Mikel Arteta has locked out Ramsdale.

It seems obvious that the Gunners would move on, and they would apparently take about £30 million. Cole, a former Toon goal machine, has supported Ramsdale’s success at Newcastle but cautioned that he must be the team’s top player.

Cole told Betfred, “When a player moves to a different club, nine times out of ten, they’re meant to be their new club’s No. 1 center-forward, center-half, goalkeeper, or whatever it may be.” Aaron is going to be Newcastle’s starting goalkeeper if he makes the move.

“I genuinely believe he has been treated unfairly. “The way he’s disregarded Ramsdale has been really disrespectful. He was so good for Arsenal last season, and then all of a sudden, Mikel Arteta went out and got a new goalkeeper and initially claimed that he had two number ones, which was complete nonsense from day one.”

In essence, he has mugged him off. If he does leave Arsenal, I think he would do a great job at Newcastle because I admire the way he conducts business and I think he deserves to be treated with a little more respect.
