Assume that you will be in high demand if you are a center-half who is both tactically adaptable and left-footed. That appears to be the case for a defender valued at £22 million who is being watched by West Ham, Newcastle United, and Aston Villa in the Premier League before the summer transfer window opens.

All three teams have inquired about Mario Hermoso’s circumstances and have been informed of the Spaniard’s requests, according to HITC’s report on Tuesday.

The former star player for Espanyol is currently bound to Atletico Madrid, but his time there is limited. At the conclusion of the current campaign, Hermoso’s current contract ends.

Furthermore, it doesn’t seem like the five-time Spain international and his agency are any closer to striking an extension, as seen by a string of remarks that will give West Ham, Newcastle, and Aston Villa hope that a good deal can still be reached.

Newcastle and Aston Villa target will be a free-agent

“In his five years in Madrid, he has developed significantly as a player and is performing exceptionally well. As of right now, he is wrapping up his deal with Atletico Madrid, the 28-year-old’s agent Inaki Espizua says CN24TV.

It’s not a given that he’ll play somewhere else. However, there needs to be a shared project when you sign a contract. Furthermore, a renewal with Atletico Madrid is still far off.

Inter "optimistic" about signing Atletico Madrid defender Mario Hermoso

Mario aspires to be a major league player. He wants to consider all of his alternatives. He desires to play for significant objectives. It is the player’s goal that we assess any potential projects over the following few years.

Hermoso, a former member of Real Madrid’s junior team, has played with Los Colchoneros for five years. He was a member of Diego Simeone’s Atletico team that won La Liga in 2021.

Defensive southpaws are all the rage these days too, with managers increasingly intent on playing out from the back. Hermoso is also adept as a centre-half and as a left-back, and can play in both a back four or a back three.

West Ham also in Mario Hermoso race

Newcastle has expressed interest at a time when Sven Botman may be sidelined for the rest of 2024 due to an ACL injury. Tyrone Mings was also lost by Aston Villa for several months, and Nayef Aguerd at West Ham has not lived up to expectations.

HITC is aware that Max Kilman, the captain of Wolves, is also a target for Villa and Newcastle.

Espizua talked more about the possibility of Hermoso leaving Atletico for Italy than he did about his client’s possible move to the Premier League.

Mario could definitely make it to Serie A. Among the Serie A teams that present an appealing scenario is Napoli, says Espizua. “Napoli is an amazing team.”

They have a noteworthy past and won the Scudetto last year. I won’t discuss specific teams out of consideration for everyone, but Serie A may undoubtedly be a prestigious place. Inter is a fantastic club as well.

On Wednesday, Hermoso’s Atletico takes on Borussia Dortmund in the opening leg of their Champions League quarterfinal match.
