Shurandy Sambo, a defender for PSV Eindhoven, is allegedly on Burnley’s summer transfer roster.

The 22-year-old has made nine appearances for PSV this season, but he has only played 94 minutes in the Eredivisie and has not yet started a league game.

Sambo made 28 league starts and scored twice while on loan at fellow Dutch top-flight team Sparta Rotterdam during the 2022–2023 season.

The right-back has struggled to find opportunities in Peter Bosz’s lineup despite having plenty of first-team opportunities in Rotterdam, frequently having to play in PSV’s second division youth squad.

The Eredivisie league leaders, who have lost only once in 29 league games this season, are led by Jordan Teze and Sergino Dest, both on loan from Barcelona.

Burnley swoop in for Sambo

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims that Burnley has moved to acquire Sambo’s services in advance of the 2024–25 season.

According to the report, Vincent Kompany has reached an agreement with PSV for the Clarets to recruit the defender during the summer transfer window in an effort to strengthen his defense.

It is believed that Sambo, 22, will join the English team on a free transfer when his contract with Eindhoven expires at the end of the current campaign.

According to reports, the Netherlands Under-21 international will sign a four-year contract at Turf Moor, keeping him with the Lancashire team through the summer of 2028.

Sambo has never played professional football outside of the Netherlands, much less in England, so his upcoming move to Burnley will be a drastic change of scenery for the young player.

The state of play at right-back

With Sambo looking set to join up with Burnley for the 2024-25 season, there will be increased speculation surrounding the future of right-backs currently at the club.

Wales international Connor Roberts was integral to the Clarets’ title-winning campaign of 2022-23 but failed to cement his place in Kompany’s Premier League XI.

Brazilian Vitinho earned the title of first choice at right-back and Roberts was loaned out to Championship side Leeds United during the January window.

It was reported last month that Daniel Farke‘s side are plotting a permanent move for the 28-year-old, despite him being kept out of the Leeds side by Archie Gray since joining the Elland Road club.
