Max Kilman’s attempt for Wolverhampton Wanderers versus West Ham was controversially disallowed after a VAR assessment, denying them a stoppage-time equalizer.

The public remarks made by West Ham manager David Moyes regarding the late controversy in his team’s victory over Wolves contradict what opposing player Gary O’Neil alleges the Hammers boss told him in private.

At Molineux, the Hammers overcame a deficit to win, with goals disallowed for both sides. While there were few complaints over the foul that ended Hammers defender Emerson’s celebrations, Max Kilman’s header for the home team caused far more controversy.

Before James Ward-Prowse put West Ham ahead straight from a corner, both clubs had scored from penalties. Kilman believed he had equalized in the ninth minute of additional time, but a video assistant review determined that Wolves substitute Tawanda Chirewa was offside and had interfered with the visiting goalie.

Immediately after the game, O’Neil claimed both Moyes and Fabianski agreed with him that the goal should have been allowed to stand. Later, however, Moyes’ comments appeared to go against this version of events.
