Under David Moyes’ leadership, West Ham United is having one of the strangest seasons in the team’s recent history.
The Hammers have performed admirably in the Premier League, currently sitting seventh in the standings, and have once again performed admirably in Europe, earning a trip to the Europa League quarterfinals, where they will take on Bayer Leverkusen.
However, despite that stellar on-field record, there is a widespread sense of unhappiness among the supporters, with the majority of the annoyance directed against Moyes due to his defensive and frequently boring style of game.
The Scotsman’s followers have been calling for his dismissal for a long time, and although he has dismissed the rising pressure, it seems that he is trying to deflect the criticism with his recent remarks about Edson Alvarez’s discipline.
He stated, as cited by Mail Online on Friday, April 5, that it has an impact on the team. He should have enough experience, in my opinion, to realize that cards aren’t given out every week.
“He is sufficiently wise. It starts to make a difference. We are happy to see him again.
Will David Moyes be sacked at West Ham United this season?
While it is a blow to the Hammers that Alvarez appears to be picking up bookings almost every other week, his suspension wasn’t the reason that the Hammers failed to beat either Tottenham or Newcastle United.
The Scotsman’s decision to substitute Michail Antonio and introduce Kalvin Phillips against the Magpies ultimately cost the Irons all three points at St James’ Park as they threw away their lead in the second half.
Alternatively, against Spurs, Moyes didn’t make a single substitution in the game despite the quick turnaround between fixtures. That ensured that West Ham’s influence on proceedings faltered as the game ran on.

For Moyes to suggest it was Alvarez’s absence that impacted the Hammers in both these matches rather than his own decision-making is ridiculous. The Scotsman has to take some of the blame for his side’s recent below-par performances.
Whether or not he will still be in charge come the start of next season remains to be seen, but at the moment, it seems as though he is managing to divide the Hammers fanbase with every single decision he makes.
Hopefully, Alvarez’s return will help West Ham pick up all three points against Wolves on Saturday (6 April). If not, the pressure on Moyes will only continue to grow and grow.
