Man United have eyes on Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa, ahead of a huge summer transfer window for the Reds.

Manchester United’s defensive frailties were on full display again yesterday evening. Two goals conceded in the last two minutes. Four in total. Erik ten Hag has no doubt eyed this as an area that needs addressing when the summer rolls around. Assuming he keeps his job…

Several names have already been linked with filling that void. Jarrad Branthwaite is perhaps the early front runner. However, another England-based centre-back sees his name mentioned in the headlines today; Ezri Konsa.

It’s Football Transfers with the story. They believe United ‘could make a move’ for the 26-year-old Premier League defender, having ‘monitored’ the player last summer.

Konsa, who has impressed for Aston Villa over the last couple of seasons, while also winning a couple of England caps, is a name that often goes under the radar when talking about the top centre-halves in the country. Make no mistake about it. He is up there.

United are looking to strengthen their defence, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe keen on making moves for homegrown talents first and foremost.

The Old Trafford club have been ‘alerted’ to Konsa’s frustration at his contract situation at Villa Park last summer, placing the defender on their transfer shortlist as a result.

Villa were reluctant to part with one of their prized assets, eventually doubling Konsa’s wages in order to tie the centre-half down to a new deal. He now is committed to Villa for the next five years, which could make any potential deal expensive for the Old Trafford club.

United are still thought to be ‘admirers’ of Konsa, though Villa hope to qualify for the Champions League, in order to minimise the amount of players they will have to sell to comply with FFP and Premier League financial constraints.

United could certainly do worse than Konsa.

Do you think a Man United move to sign Ezri Konsa would make sense? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
