It makes sense that Said Benrahma had such high hopes when he signed with West Ham, considering how amazing he was in the Championship.

He was expected to be the next great football player to emerge from the English second division. Regretfully, it was not at all the case.

He showed some encouraging indicators, but he was never able to reach his full potential. At the London Stadium, the 28-year-old appeared to regress and was gradually cut before going on loan to Lyon in January.

Despite making just five appearances for the French team, he has made an impression and advanced them over the relegation zone and into the European spots.

According to Football Insider, Lyon wants to make the agreement permanent, which might be advantageous for both parties. It’s understood that, in addition to the £5 million they paid in loan fees, they have the option to buy him for £12.3 million. In addition, 10% would go to West Ham in the event that Lyon sold him.

Although the Algerian scored the most significant penalty in the team’s history, his tenure in the Premier League was anything but successful overall. But the East London faithful will always remember him with affection for that night in Prague.
