Marcus Edwards, a winger for Sporting CP, is apparently of interest to Crystal Palace as Oliver Glasner prepares for the summer transfer window to bolster his team.

Oliver Glasner will be busy this summer at Crystal Palace as he gets ready to make adjustments to the team that he took over from Roy Hodgson last month.

The star combo of Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze are anticipated to leave the Eagles during the transfer window, and a lot of rumors have already started to circulate about their futures.

Nevertheless, Glasner is eager to add more skill to the team, therefore the South Londoners are also ready to welcome a few new players.

Crystal Palace could strengthen their attack this summer

Documented earlier today, Palace are said to want to sign a striker in the summer, with HITC journalist Graeme Bailey telling We Are Palace of the club’s stance on Eddie Nketiah and Serhou Guirassy.

As well as adding depth to the front line, it’s now reported that the Eagles could be tempted to add to their wide areas, with former Tottenham academy jewel Marcus Edwards linked with a move to Selhurst.

As reported by Portuguese news outlet A Bola, Palace are said to see Edwards as a target for next season, stating that the 25-year-old is ‘one of Glasner’s requests’ in the summer.

While it’s clear that the manager is a fan of the Sporting CP superstar, there could be a slight stumbling block as his release clause is set at €60m (£57m), a price that could be lowered if the right figure is produced.

What Marcus Edwards could offer to Crystal Palace

Rising through the ranks at Tottenham, Edwards has an understanding of the demands of playing in England.

The London-born winger has thrived since joining Sporting back in 2022, securing 104 appearances in all competitions and contributing to 46 goals.

This term, the Englishman has 14 goal contributions coming in six goals and eight assists, showing a glimpse of just what he could add to Glasner’s attack.

Once lauded as “wonderful” by talent scout Jacek Kulig, Edwards’ style of play is something that would excite Palace, with his pace, skill and strong outlet traceable to the assets seen in Olise’s game.

Averaging 5.94 progressive carries per 90 over the past year, the 25-year-old ranks in the top 7% of wingers in Europe’s top five leagues, via FBref, showcasing just how dangerous he can be when on the ball.

Playing mostly on the right flank, the former Spurs star might be considered as an option to replace Olise should the Frenchman decide to leave the team in the summer due to a variety of offers.

There is little dispute about Edwards’ talent, so only time will tell if Glasner is serious about signing him to a Palace contract.
