Some celebrities who have achieved success include Jarrod Bowen, Mohammed Kudus, and Lucas Paqueta.

Nevertheless, there have also been notable failures; players like Sebastien Haller, Nikola Vlasic, and Gianluca Scamacca turned out to be awful additions to the squad.

To suggest that the Hammers’ loan signing of Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City during the January transfer window hasn’t gone as planned would be an understatement.

In fact, Phillips hasn’t played regularly since leaving City, and he hasn’t even been well-paid since joining the Hammers.

Scott Minto, who has been talking about Phillips’ move to the London Stadium on the Premier League All Access Podcast, stated that he had no idea why Phillips came to West Ham.

Kalvin Phillips’ move to West Ham is baffling

Minto spoke about the £42m man and his summer switch.

“In terms of Kalvin Phillips, I’ll be honest with you I didn’t understand the West Ham move in the first place. The amount of good holding midfield players they have, Edson Alvarez, Ward-Prowse. Now, I know that David Moyes liked him a few years ago and wanted to spend £50m when he was at Leeds to get him and Rice to play together, but it hasn’t really worked,” Minto said.

Not working

It’s easy to say this in hindsight, isn’t it?

At the time, a move to West Ham looked ideal for Phillips. After all, the Hammers needed something of a Declan Rice replacement and David Moyes was a fan.

However, it really hasn’t gone to plan for the former Leeds star, and now, this move does look baffling as Philips isn’t getting a game ahead of the Hammers’ current midfield options.

Phillips may need to find another move in the summer in order to get his career back on track.
