The Reds’ manager, who is preparing for tomorrow’s League Two meeting with Grimsby Town at The STóK Cae Ras, has already had to contend with a slew of injuries since the club’s return to the EFL.

Last Saturday’s 2-1 triumph over Doncaster Rovers was missed by a number of wing-backs, including Anthony Forde, Jacob Mendy, and Bryce Hosannah, while James McClean was away on international duty with the Republic of Ireland.

The Reds’ manager, who is preparing for tomorrow’s League Two meeting with Grimsby Town at The STóK Cae Ras, has already had to contend with a slew of injuries since the club’s return to the EFL.

“Liam stepped into that role and gave us everything.

“He hasn’t played much football, but he did play in the EFL Trophy last Tuesday.”

“One thing about Liam is that he’s a great squad player, a great player to have in the group day in, day out, and the lads were delighted for him that he made a contribution.”

McClean is available for selection tomorrow, but centre-back Aaron Hayden is out due to injury, while star striker Paul Mullin and new acquisition Steven Fletcher pressed their claims for starting spots after coming on as second-half substitutes against Doncaster.

Mullin had a punctured lung and four shattered ribs during the club’s pre-season tour of America but returned at the weekend, while experienced frontman Fletcher, a free agent who played for Dundee United last season, made an impact off the bench on his debut.

“There was no game this week, so it’s important for Mulls and Fletch to get a good week of training,” Parkinson said.
