Olise tore his ACL in France’s U21 European Championship victory against Norway in June.

When he returned to Selhurst Park, the 21-year-old was obliged to have hamstring surgery.

In the summer, he turned off interest from Chelsea and signed a new contract with the Eagles.

However, when the former Reading playmaker will be eligible for selection this season is unknown.

“It’s going as the medical people said it would,” Hodgson, 76, said ahead of Palace’s trip to Aston Villa.

“When he returned from France with that very serious injury and needed to be operated on, I was given a pretty clear idea of what we needed to look at.”

“That’s where we are, and it’s moving along those lines.”

Olise had six assists in 10 games for Hodgson after the former England and Liverpool manager took over for Patrick Vieira.

After his 11 assists in the previous season, he became the first Palace player to record double digits in an individual Premier League season.

“He’s such a wonderful talent,” Hodgson continued.

“It’s a joy to see him play, both in games and on the practice field, for someone who loves football.”

“It’s a joy to see him play. I’ll be overjoyed when he returns.

“He will make us stronger as a team and provide us with some entertainment.” He will also provide a lot of entertainment for the individuals who come to see us play, the spectators.

“That is what those quality players do for you.”
